On line learning - Courses on the Internet
 
The IOL (Invatamant On Line) system is an LMS (Learning Management System) type learning process management system created through experimental implementation of the MOODLE system (modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) at Economical Science Faculty from Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University - Cluj-Napoca, currently used in more than 88 countries, with more than 1500 online web sites world wide. In Romania there are currently (*December 2004) a number of five universities having a functional implementations of MOODLE systems, currently the most advanced being the one at ASE Bucharest and the Dimitrie Cantemir University – Economical Science Faculty Cluj – Napoca.

IOL system was used for the first time on October 1,2004 an is currently composed of 5 classes, 3 of which are fully available, the other two being under development right now. There are a number of 247 users of which 187 are students of Economical Science Faculty from Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University of Cluj Napoca. There were 29.000 accesses in two months. On the implemented classes there were weekly attending. Students’ attending was over 90% in the first 2 months. All students have email addresses, and are composing there papers using the computer, they are interacting with each other and are searching for information on the web.
Students got used to use the computer, to create an account, an email address, to send their papers to the teacher, to search for other materials on the Internet, things that they were not used to do on the beginning. Students are weekly tested for the activities from that week (tests, interactive support of the class, questions, essays, projects, etc. ) having creative activities during the whole course duration. The student gets used with continuous and with the systems that he will meet after graduation in real life. The system is completely functional and can be implemented on other centers as well.
